Middletown, NY
Adelaide “Chickie” Petrozak, a Middletown resident all her life, died peacefully in her sleep on November 17, 2018 at Valley View Nursing Home. She passed only 2 months shy of her 100th birthday.
The daughter of the late Alexander and Anna Mikolajczyk, she was born on January 29, 1919 in Middletown, NY. She graduated from Middletown Schools and was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She was married to Charles Petrozak, who predeceased her in 1989.
Chickie was one of the first employees of the Times Herald Record, where she worked in the Classified Advertising Department. She was a member of the Horton Hospital Auxiliary and was once voted volunteer of the year. Her husband founded the pancake breakfasts at the Elks in Middletown and she chaired and coordinated the bake sale. She was extremely proud of her Polish heritage and Jimmy Sturr was her favorite entertainer. She liked to write and share stories about her child and adulthood. Chickie was an avid shopper who lived by the motto “shop ‘til you drop".
Most of all, she cherished her family- especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She was very proud of them all.
