Adelaide Alice Herr

Wolf Lake, Wurtsboro, NY

February 11, 1934-March 18, 2014

Adelaide Alice Herr, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died unexpectedly on March 18, 2014 at her home at Wolf Lake in Wurtsboro. She was 80.

The daughter of the late Norman A. and Estelle Sheriden Dinkle, she was born on February 11, 1934 in Queens Village, NY. Adelaide married George H. Herr in 1955 in Queens, NY. George and Adelaide moved to the area in 1990 and she became a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Middletown. Adelaide was a woman of strong faith who felt that it was important that children go to school and church. She wanted her children to graduate college, and earn a degree. She was an excellent cook, avid reader and a great historian. When asked about her heritage, she would proudly respond, “I am an American”. Adelaide was a wonderful babysitter, and walked her granddaughter in her stroller all over Hickville, NY. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and Broadway Musicals.

Adelaide is survived by her husband, George, one son, Andrew and his wife Michelle of Hicksville and two daughters, Susan Herr of Wurtsboro and Nancy Wanczowski and her husband Robert of Hicksville; and one cherished granddaughter, Jacqueline Albertson and her husband Brian of North Massapequa, NY. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Rev. Norman Dingle.

Visitation hours will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at her church, St. John’s Lutheran Church, at 1:30 pm on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 391 Mount Hope Road, Middletown, NY 10940. Pastor Peter Rustico will officiate.
