James Laurence Bernice died at home in the loving arms of his parents Mark and Kelly Risdal Bernice on July 6th , 2010. James blessed his parents, Kelly and Mark, with his early arrival on February 22, 2010 in Paterson, NJ. From the moment of his birth, his tremendous spirit began to touch everyone around him. A community of prayer and compassionate care formed around James, and many experienced kindness because of his presence. Although his time with us here on earth has been far too brief, James’ courage, strength and innocent beauty will forever be an inspiration and comfort to all of us who loved him.

In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by his grandparents; Larry and Sharon Risdal of Middletown, Patricia Bernice of Elmwood Park, NJ, and Robin Bernice of Wayne NJ; aunts Allyson of Hawthorn NJ, Jaime of Wayne NJ, uncles Keith Risdal and his wife Janine of Walker Valley, and Kevin Risdal and his wife Amy of Germantown, MD and cousins Danielle and Casey.

James was predeceased by his paternal grandfather James Bernice in 2008.

A Mass of the Angels will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday July 10, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt Carmel R.C. Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Rev. James Sidoti, O.Carm. will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Wallkill

Cemetery, 160 Midway Road, Middletown, NY 10940. Contributions may be made in James name to St. Joseph's NICU fund c/o Sheila Carr 703 Main St. Paterson, NJ 07503.

The Risdal and Bernice families wish to express their gratitude to all of those who prayed and cared for their beloved sweet baby James.

My Our Lord hold your precious child in His Arms until that day when all will be reunited and every tear will be wiped away. God has taken James to be with his grandfather where there is no pain and suffering. Although it is said that God only gives us what we can bear, sometimes it still feels like too much. Always remember the times you held him, kissed him and loved him. He felt the love and caring. Our prayers are with your family.
