Maureen McGeady

Maureen Heaney McGeady, a 50 year resident of Greenville and Middletown, died on Friday, June 4, 2010 at home, following a long courageous battle with cancer. She was 74.
She was born on June 6, 1935 in New York City and received her B.A from Notre Dame College in Staten Island and her M.A. from Fordham University and C.W. Post University. She began her career in Education in JHS 12/56 in Lower Manhattan. After moving to the Orange County area, she worked for the Otisville Union Free School System, which later merged with the Minisink Valley School system. Maureen retired after 34 years as a High School guidance counselor. She served as Board Supervisor and board member of the Town of Greenville, and was an instructor in the Drinking Driver Program at Orange County Community College for 21 years. Currently and for the past 15 years, Maureen was working as a tax preparer and store manager for the East Main Street H & R Block in Middletown.
During her lifetime, Maureen was former president of the Orange County Teachers Association, former president and long time member of the Greenville VFW Post 3175 Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Orange County Guidance Association, the NYS Retired Teachers Association, Middletown Retired Teachers Association and president and longtime member of the Green Ridge Ladies Golf League. She loved the big G's- Gambling, Golf, and Gardening.
She is survived by her beloved
daughter, Alice and numerous nieces
and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John McGeady and her brothers, John, Robert and William Heaney.
Visitation hours will be held on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, June 7, 2010 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Avenue, Middletown, NY. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery in Port Jervis, NY.
Memorial contributions in Maureen's name may be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Funeral arrangements under the direction of Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home.

I am truly blessed for having known her. She was a beautiful person and her spirit will live on in our hearts and memories forever. She will be greatly missed.
