Walter A Kelly of Bloomingburg, died on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at home. He was 91.

The son of the late Charles and Minnie Cogsmell Kelly, he was born on January 15, 1919 in Syracuse, NY. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Walter married Mildred Miller and the two moved to the Bloomingburg area in 1955. He worked as a mechanic as part of Operating Engineers Local #825 and was a member of the Wurtsboro VFW and the Shawangunk Fish and Game Club.

He will be remembered for always being jolly, and his great sense of humor. He loved his gardens, and being in the garage. He was very helpful to others, and could make something from nothing.

Walter is survived by his loving wife, Millie at home; one son, Walter C. Kelly and his wife Gloria of Davenport, FL; three daughters, Clara Duzemenski and her husband Joseph of Slate Hill, Charlotte Baker and Dwayne Henry of Bloomingburg, and Thelma Leed of Lancaster, PA; son-in-law, John DeGroat, Sr.; his loving grandchildren, Katelynn, Jeffrey, Brad and Christopher, and many more; and his special girl, who was like a daughter to him,Sharon Grace., who helped his family take care of him during his illness.

Walter was predeceased by three children, Allen Kelly in 2005, Albert Kelly in 1968 and Gladys DeGroat in 1970.

Visitation hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service in Remembrance will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the funeral home, burial with military honors will follow in the family plot in Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Rt. 17M, Bloomingburg, NY.
