Sean L. Smith, a Corrections Officer at Fishkill Correctional Facility, died on December 12, 2009 in Manhattan. He was 40 years old.

The eldest of  Carolyn and Ulis Smith Jr.'s six children, he was born on April 7, 1969 in New York City. He was a lifetime member of Morning Star Full Gospel Assembly in the Bronx.

First and foremost, he took care of his family. Besides his biological siblings, Sean was considered a "big brother" to many both within his church and on the job. His friends called him the "Lt. Governor" because of his deep interest and involvement in others' welfare. He truly cared for others, in both his heart and in his actions. He was also a gifted artist and during his tenure as an employee at the N.Y. Times, he took 1st place in an Employee sponsored Art Contest. He wrote plays and was a talented football player. Sean was one of a kind, a truly caring and loving individual.

In addition to his parents of New York, he is survived by his wife Athena Couloute Smith and his son Seth Josiah Smith of Middletown, brothers Omar and his wife Stacy of Middletown, Quincy and his wife Gidget, Nathaniel (Marcus) and his wife Carenine, Nathan (Maurice) and his wife Artiea, Travis and sister Tracey Smith, all of the Bronx; seven dear nieces and nephews, Zariah, Tamia, Kyra, Nathan Jr., Angelina, Elisabeth and Luke and a host of Aunts, Uncles, cousins and many friends.

A Graveside Service will be held this Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11 am at Hillside Cemetery, Mulberry Street, Middletown, NY 10940. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm Saturday afternoon (Jan. 2) at Morning Star Full Gospel Assembly, 464 East Tremont Avenue, Bronx, NY 10457 www.morningstarfga.org.

Memorial contributions in Sean's name may be made to his church, Morning Star Full Gospel Assembly at the above address or through the website.
