Robert Nathan Isseks, a native son of Middletown, died unexpectedly on April 3, 2017 in Hillside Cemetery on his daily scenic walk through the city. He was 65.
The son of Evelyn Sher Isseks and the late Jacob Isseks, he was born on July 15, 1951 in Middletown. Bob was a graduate of 1969 MHS and 1973 Syracuse University. He earned his Masters degree from Colgate and earned his law degree from Fordham University in 1978. He married Judith Reynolds on May 25, 1985 in High Falls. An accomplished athlete, he was named an ALLDUSO lineman.
He was a highly sought after attorney who worked for the City of Middletown, as well as serving as a City judge and a Civil Rights attorney. He was an attorney for the Hillside Cemetery Board, and worked as special counsel for the city of Middletown. He was also Assistant Corporation Counsel He was a recipient of the Liberty Bell Award.
Bob was also nature lover who enjoyed long walks every day in the City of Middletown. He knew the history of his city and shared his knowledge whenever he could. He loved the rich stories Middletown held. He was a strong but gentle presence in the community who will be dearly missed by the many people he touched every day. His family and friends have been devastated by his loss.
In addition to his devoted wife, Judith and his mother, Evelyn of Middletown; he is survived by his loving children, Abraham “Abe” Isseks and Sophie Rose Isseks; and his beloved brother, Fred and his wife Densise of Middletown and his cherished grandchildren, Patrick “Paddy” Naughton and Kenneth Peterson.
Visitation will be from 11 am to 2 pm on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will be private in Hillside Cemetery.
