Obituary for Peter J. Rickard
PETER J. RICKARD
April 13, 1958 - September 9, 2018
Otisville, NY
Peter J. Rickard, 60, of Otisville, New York, devoted husband of 37 years, loving father and grandfather, died on Sunday, September 9, at his home accompanied by his beloved wife and best friend Sally.
Peter was born in Floral Park, New York and moved with his family to Otisville when he was 14 years old.
Peter graduated from Marist College in 1980 with a BS in Business Administration. He graduated from Minisink Valley High School, Slate Hill in 1976 where he was captain of the varsity football and basketball teams. Peter met his wife Sally at Minisink-they were high school sweethearts. Peter has life-long friends from both Marist and Minisink who were present to him during his year-long bout with cancer.
Peter worked for 27 years at the Madison-Davis Group, Tarrytown, NY where he was Vice President and Minority Partner. In addition to forging a successful career, Peter also developed deep friendships with his colleagues. After leaving Madison-Davis, Peter fulfilled his life-long dream of starting his own business. In 2016, he and Sally launched Stewart-Rickard Associates, an executive search firm specializing in the Life Sciences and Biotech industries.
Peter had a great passion for sports and coaching. He was assistant basketball coach at SUNY Orange for several years under his brother, Paul, and coached his three daughters, Sara, Madeline, and Marifaith, at St. John School, Goshen. For 10 years (2007-2016) he coached varsity girls basketball at Chester Academy High School until he was diagnosed with cancer prior to the 2017 season. He rebuilt the girls' basketball program and won two division titles. He loved coaching at Chester and made a huge impact on his players.
Peter volunteered for several years at Blythedale Children's Hospital, Valhalla. He was a man of faith, integrity, and compassion who loved his family, friends, colleagues and his players.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Marie and Walter Rickard, Sr. and his brother Paul Rickard, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sally; his three daughters, Sara and her husband, Chris Fandl, Madeline and her husband, Chris Rose, Marifaith and her husband, Chris Nelson; five grandchildren, Brady, Kellan Peter, and Tanner Fandl and Connor and Emerson Rose; two sisters, Mary Hutchings and her husband, Doug, and Sr. Theresa Rickard, OP; and two brothers: Walter and his wife, Lynn; Joseph and his wife, Maureen; his sister-in-law, Maureen; and many nieces and nephews who loved him like a brother and a second dad. Peter's goodness, strength, and courage have been an incredible gift to his family, friends, colleagues and players.
