Dr. Paulo E. Ampil, longtime resident of Middletown, NY died peacefully on April 8, 2017, surrounded by his loving family in his beautiful home, after a courageous 12 year battle with cancer.
The son of Hilarie Emiliano and Domingo Ampil, he was born on July 24,1940 in Manila.
He completed his M.D. at Far Eastern University, in Manila, Philipines.
He did his redidency in Internal Medicine at St. Elizabeth Hospital in New Jersey and Fellowship in Edocrinology at Martland Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey. He was an attending physician at Arden Hill Hospital in 1972 and Horton Hospital (O.R.M.C.) from 1973 to 2000.
Dr. Ampil was a physician at Middletown Community Health Center since 2000, and will be greatly missed by his staff and his many patients who loved and respected him. He previously had a private practice in Pine Bush, NY, and later joined the staff at Middletown Medical for several years.
He married his sweetheart, Zenaida Claustro on December 22, 1968 in the Philipines and they shared 48 years in a loving and adoring marriage.
He is also survived by his devoted and loving family: his wife, Zenaida: his son, Domingo of Middletown, NY, and two daughters, Dr. Maria and her spouse, Dr. Carl Silverio of Hopewell Junction, NY, and Christina and her husband, Michael Manza of Massapequa, NY; four grandchildren: Tyler and Kyle Silverio, and Kayla and Michael Manza; two brothers, Peter and Albert and one sister, Teodora and her husband, Rolando Joco and several neices and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Hilarie Emiliano and Domingo Ampil; three sisters: Aida, Carmencita and Linda.
His life’s purpose was to care for others. He loved his profession as a physician and caring for his patients gave him great joy.
Dr. Ampil was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Mid-Hudson Filopino-American Association, Lay Apostles, The Filopino Rosary Group of Sacred Heart, Monroe, NY.
He was a humble, soft spoken, generous, kind-hearted soul.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. His hobbies included playing Mahjong with his barkada, Karaoke, fishing, traveling to Ocean City, Maryland with his family, cruising and traveling abroad with Zenaida and writing love letters to his beloved sweetheart.
The family would like to thank the following: The physicians and Nurses at the Oncology Department at O.R.M.C., particularly, Dr. Arvind Kamthan. We would also like to thank the physicians and staff at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in N.Y.C., particularly, Dr. Max Sung and Dr. Myron Schwartz.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 5 & 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 10th at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday April 11th at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown with Fr. Dennis Nikolic officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
