Obituary for Norma De Mouth
Norma De Mouth
March 8, 1924-November 4, 2017
Middletown, NY

Norma De Mouth, a longtime Middletown resident, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2017 at Middletown Park Manor. She was 93.
The daughter of the late George and Mary Bahrenburg Koehler, she was born on March 8, 1924 in Hackensack, NJ. Norma will be forever loved and remembered as the thoughtful, caring and kindhearted person she was. All those who knew her, were touched by her gentle nature and lively sense of humor. Visually impaired from her youth, Norma’s life presented her with many challenges; all of which she met head on with great courage and determination. Fiercely independent and never wanting to be a burden to anyone, she graduated from the Institute for the Blind in Bronx, NY and learned to read and write braille. Never a complainer and always content in the state she found herself, she subscribed to the Talking Book and Braille Library in Albany, NY and received many books on tape and in braille that she would read on a daily basis. She also had an extensive collection of old radio programs on cassette that she would alternate listening to.
A true lover of animals, Norma had many cats over the years, but her last feline friend, Pepper, was by far her favorite.
She was the loving wife of Lester De Mouth, who predeceased her in 1973.
Norma is survived by her sister, Jean Crane who resides in the state of Florida. Besides her many loving nieces and nephews, she is also survived by her faithful friends, Emil and Chris Norman, Oscar and Cheryl Gonzalez and Christine Stilwagen.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 am on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Monday morning at the funeral home, Pastor Peter Rustico will officiate. Burial will follow in the family plot in Warwick Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Middletown Humane Society or the Talking Book and Braille Library.
Arrangements under the direction of Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. www.applebee-mcphillips.com
