Michael Joseph Roche, formerly of Middletown and recently of McKinney, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on May 15, 2018 while travelling for business in Nevada. He was 59 years old.
The son of Ann Marino Roche and the late Gerard Roche, he was born on September 15 1958 in Middletown, NY. He was a graduate of Middletown High School, Class of 1977. Michael was a longtime member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and a volunteer firefighter for Middletown Fire Dept.'s Waalkill Engine Company No. 6. He married Lisa Gillis on August 1 1981 in Middletown and they have celebrated 37 years together. They relocated to the McKinney Texas area in 2009.
In addition to his loving wife Lisa at home, he is survived by his son Christopher Roche and his wife Kelly of McKinney, TX, son Matthew Roche of New Jersey, and daughter Cassandra Roche of McKinney, TX. He is also survived by his sister Kathleen Scheels and her husband Michael of Middletown, brother, Thomas Roche and his wife Allison of Montgomery, his beloved granddaughter, Kara Roche of McKinney, TX and his mother-in-law, Nancy Sears of Middletown. His many nieces and nephews left to cherish his memory affectionately knew him as "Uncle Pita". Family was always at the forefront of Michael's life and he had a large, extended one from New York to Texas that he loved dearly.
A Memorial visitation and service will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 2 to 4 pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Celebration of Michael’s life will take place at 3:30 on Sunday afternoon. Cremation will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the charity of one’s choice.
