Mary Ryan Crummenauer, a longtime Middletown resident and proud mother, grand and great-grandmother died on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center. She was 86.
The eldest child of the late Michael and Sara McGroarty Ryan, she was born on March 9, 1931 in New York, NY. She married Thomas Crummenauer and they celebrated 57 years of marriage before his death on March 9, 2007. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s Church in Middletown.
Mary was all about family and her grand and great grandchildren brought her incredible joy. She had great patience with the children, and was adored by her grandchildren. She idolized the kids and generously shared everything with them. She was a talented gardener and liked to travel on cruises and play bingo. She will be remembered for the huge impact she had on her family, the time, love and endless gifts she showered them with throughout her life.
She is survived by her sons, Thomas Crummenauer and his wife Margaret and Michael and his wife Iris; and her daughter, Charleen Crummenauer and her companion David Weigle. She is also survived by her brother, Tommy Ryan and his wife Eileen of new City and sisters, Theresa Bertram of Long Island and Margaret Porfidio and her husband Sal of N.Y.C.; and her cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Kelly, Erin, Michael, Alena, Joshua, and Arron; and great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Riley, Brogan and Raeanne, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, September 14 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, September 15, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Middletown, NY.
