MARTIN KANIA
June 3, 1925 - November 4, 2017
Middletown, NY
Martin "Marty" Kania of Middletown, a gentle man and gentleman, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Orange Regional Medical Center. He was 92.
The son of the late John and Victoria Kobylarz Kania, Martin was born on June 3, 1925 in the Town of Crawford. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to the love of his life, Doris, for 68 years. They were married at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Middletown on April 17, 1949. He worked for McBride Trucking, formerly of Goshen, NY.
He was a member of the Eagles and Teamsters Union 445. He was a hard worker who never complained. He was friendly and helpful to everyone. He had a smile that lit up the room, but Mom knew that smile belonged to her. His family meant everything to him. He enjoyed polkas and music in general.
Martin is survived by his loving wife, Doris at home; his daughters, Elaine Heinsman and her husband, Doug of Port Jervis, and Carol Ann Cohen and her husband, Sam of Hurricane, UT, and one brother, Tony Kania and his wife, Anne of Bayshore, NY; sisters, Rose Rieder and her husband, Bud of Kernersville, NC and Helen Beninson of Bullville; sisters-in-law: Jean Kania, Virginia Kania and Joan Van Curen; as well as several nieces and nephews and his two beloved cats, Smokey and Suzie.
He was predeceased by his parents and brothers: Julius, Joseph, Frank and Stanley Kania.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 12 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, November 13 at the funeral home, burial will follow in the family plot in Wallkill Cemetery in Middletown, NY.
Martin’s family wishes to thank the staff of Orange County Willcare, especially Lourdes, Tracey, Christina, Faith and Courtney (Marlene who always helps Mom on the senior shuttle); the entire staff at Park Manor who became extended family to Dad, Unit 4 staff at ORMC and Middletown Medical.
