John Reginald Schulz, a retired insurance underwriter for Cigna Insurance, died following a long illness on May 8, 2017 at home. He was 89.
The son of the late John H. and Magdalene Dedecke Schulz, he was born on March 1, 1928 in New York City. He proudly served in U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as an insurance underwriter for Cigna in New York City and retired in 1981. He moved to the area in 2007 from Mahopac. He was a talented fixer, he could do carpentry, masonry and electric. He was always around to help his extended family.
He is survived by his nephew, Stephen and his wife, Leigh of Middletown and great nephews: Stephen, Christopher and Justin Schulz and his wife, Kimberely and great nieces and nephews: Tyler, Abigail, Arianna, Aubrey and Lydon.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 15 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Ave., Middletown, NY 10940. A Funeral Service will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
