Obituary for James W. Reiff
JAMES W. REIFF
October 20, 1947 - June 17, 2017
Middletown, NY
James W. Reiff, a longtime area resident and Florida winter resident, died unexpectedly at Orange Regional Medical Center with his beloved companion and family at his side. He was 69 years old.
The son of Donald and Isabelle Ploch Reiff, he was born on October 20, 1947 in Port Jervis, NY. Jim graduated from Middletown High School in 1965 and joined the US Navy immediately after school.
After his service, he went to work at Middletown Psyche Center then later at Otisville State Correctional Facility, retiring as a Plant Superintendent. For the last 40 years, he’s also worked at the Orange County Speedway. During that time his co-workers, racers and many race fans became additional family to him. He was a loving and generous man who was an avid Yankee and Oakland Raiders fan who loved his NFL package. Jim could be counted on by everyone and could fix anything. He was easy going and laid back. He enjoyed playing softball and watching his grandchildren and nieces and nephews playing sports.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Bridget Myslinski; son, Christopher Reiff of Chicago, daughter, Gretchen Washalski and her husband, Peter of Greenville; brother, Donald “Sonny” Reiff of Port Jervis; grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, and Michael and his ex-wife, Kathaleen Reiff. He is also survived by his in-laws, the Hulseapple’s, Napolitano’s, Pauley’s, Friedle’s, Gugliuzzi’s, softball, fairgrounds and speedway families.
He was predeceased by his sister, Diane Regan and sister-in-law, Shirley and brother-in-law, Douglas Hulseapple.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940.
