Gladys Martinez, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died unexpectedly on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Orange regional Medical Center. She was 76.
The daughter of the late Louis and Dolores Santiago Irizarry, she was born on June 28, 1941 in Puerto Rico. Gladys lived her early life in New Jersey and married Felix Martinez in New York City on August 21, 1960. They moved to the Middletown area in 1972. She was a great bilingual educator and worked as an ESL teacher for Orange Ulster BOCES in the Adult education department. Gladys was loved by all because of her generous spirit and thoughful nature. Her personality was infectious. She was a great wife and mother and adored her grandchildren. She loved music and to dance and her energy inspired others. Gladys is gone too soon for the family and friends who so dearly loved her.
In addition to her loving husband Felix at home, she is survived by her three children, Felix A. Martinez of New York, NY, Gilbert Martinez and his wife Jeanne of Maybrook and Christina Dodson and her husband Stephon of Pine Bush; one sister, Emma Fernandez and her husband Gilbert of Monument, CO and her cherished grandchildren, Olivia, Thomas, Chase, Zoe and Brandon.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Church, 149 Cottage Street, Middletown, NY 10940.
