Cleta Schneider, a lifetime area resident, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 14, 2018 with her loving husband and family by her side. She was 84.
One of six children of the late Leslie and Beatrice Brown Hayes, she was born on February 8, 1934 in Middletown, NY. She married Kurt Schneider on November 16, 1963 at the Slate Hill Methodist Church. An accomplished seamstress, Cleta lent her talents for many years to Michael Bertoline Interior Designs in Warwick. She made her own drapes every season and upholstered furniture. She loved to cook and bake. She baked pies, prepared shrimp bakes for family and loved to celebrate all holidays with food and family. She was a member of the Otisville Lions Club, belonged to the Farmer’s Museum and started and ran the Ridgebury Thrift Shop.
In addition to her devoted husband Kurt at home, she is survived by her son Kurt and Donna of Otisville; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Eric; her siblings, Kenneth Hayes, Arlene Anglemeyer and Adelaide “Betty” Schmidt and her husband Charles; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister Erna Decker and her brother Lloyd Hayes.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc, 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY 10940. A Celebration of Life will take place at 7:30 pm at the funeral home on Thursday evening.
